GB to MB converter
This GB to MB converter turns gigabytes into megabytes as you type, for a memory setting entered in MB, a data plan measured against download sizes or a cloud storage quota filled with photos.
Formula: MB = GB × 1,024 1 × 1,024 = 1,024

What the GB to MB converter multiplies
Enter a number of gigabytes and read the megabytes beside it. The page opens on 1 GB, which the GB to MB converter shows as 1024 MB, and decimals work as typed: 0.75 GB gives 768 MB and 2.5 GB gives 2560 MB. The round button turns the pair around, and the page for megabytes into gigabytes goes the other way. For the step below, the kb to mb converter handles kilobytes.
The rule: multiply gigabytes by 1024. This GB to MB converter, like the app, counts in binary steps, so every gigabyte holds 1024 megabytes and every megabyte 1024 kilobytes. NIST gives that binary size its own name, the gibibyte (GiB), and keeps giga for 1000. Google's answer box follows the decimal reading and says 1 GB is 1000 MB. To convert GB to MB the decimal way, multiply by 1000 instead; the converter itself stays on 1024.
Mental shortcut: a gigabyte is a thousand megabytes plus about 2.4 percent. 20 GB is 20,000 plus 480, so 20480 MB, and a 50 GB game download comes to 51200 MB in the 1024 count. For anything you type into a setting, read the exact figure from the converter.
RAM, data plans and cloud storage
Memory always comes in binary sizes, and a virtual machine or a game server often asks for it in MB. Laptop and phone specs list RAM in whole gigabytes, while a settings slider or a config file often wants megabytes. Giving one 6 GB means typing 6144, 12 GB means 12288 and 16 GB of RAM means 16384. The GB to MB converter saves the mental multiplication.
Phones are sold with a data plan in gigabytes, while apps and downloads are listed in megabytes. A 3 GB data plan holds 3072 MB in the 1024 count, about 20 app updates of 150 MB each. The GB to MB converter gives that binary figure; check how your carrier counts if you get close to the limit.
Cloud storage works the same way. A Google account includes 15 GB shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos, and iCloud starts with 5 GB free. Converting gigabytes to megabytes gives 15360 and 5120 MB, so at 4 MB per picture the free Google space holds about 3,840 of them before you need to pay for more.
