KB to MB converter
This KB to MB converter turns kilobytes into megabytes as you type, to check a file size listed in KB against an upload limit, an email attachment cap or a quota given in MB.
Formula: MB = KB ÷ 1,024 2,048 ÷ 1,024 = 2

How the KB to MB converter counts
Type a size in kilobytes and read the megabytes next to it. The field opens on 2048 KB, which the KB to MB converter shows as exactly 2 MB. The round button swaps the pair, while the list under it repeats the size in bytes, kilobits, gigabytes and the KiB and MiB lines. One step up, the gb to mb converter and the mb to gb converter take over.
Here a kilobyte is 1024 bytes and a megabyte is 1024 kilobytes, the count used for memory and by Windows File Explorer. To convert KB to MB, divide by 1024: 512 KB is 0.5 MB and 5000 KB is 4.88 MB. Google's own answer box counts in base 1000 instead, so it shows 2.048 MB for the same 2048 KB. Both follow a rule: NIST keeps kilo for 1000 and names 1024 bytes a kibibyte (KiB), while Windows and many programs still write KB for 1024.

Upload limits, attachments and photos
Windows File Explorer shows sizes in KB in its Size column, even for large files: a phone photo may read 3,415 KB. If a form accepts 2 MB at most, divide by 1024 and you get 3.33 MB, too big. The KB to MB converter does that division before you press the upload button.
Email is the other usual case: the attachment limit of a personal Gmail account is 25 MB, which is 25,600 KB in the 1024 count. Adding the KB figures of several files and converting kilobytes to megabytes once tells you whether they fit in one message, and the field accepts a sum such as 850+1200+3415.
The same trick sizes a whole folder. Forty scans of 850 KB each make 34,000 KB: type 40×850 and read 33.2 MB, enough to know whether a cloud folder, a USB stick or a shared drive with a fixed quota will take them.
This page converts units, it does not shrink files. When the file size of a scan or a photo is over the limit, the KB to MB converter tells you by how much, and the file itself has to be made smaller in another program.
Mind the capital letter too: KB means kilobytes and Kb means kilobits, eight times smaller, so 512 Kb is only 64 KB. Both units sit in the list of the KB to MB converter.
