Inches to cm converter
This inches to cm converter turns a size read on a US tape measure, a screen spec or a recipe into centimeters as you type, fractions included, so 10 inches comes out at 25.4 cm with nothing lost to rounding.
Formula: cm = in × 2.54 10 × 2.54 = 25.4

The inches to cm converter, step by step
Type a length in inches on the left and the centimeters appear on the right, with millimeters, meters and the other length units in the list below. Whole numbers and decimals work, and so do fractions written as a sum: 9+3/4 gives 24.765 cm. The round button in the middle opens the cm to inches converter, built for the other direction.
Each inch equals 2.54 centimeters, with no rounding at all, so the inches to cm converter simply multiplies by 2.54: 10 × 2.54 = 25.4. That number is a legal definition rather than a measurement, agreed in 1958 by the English-speaking nations, as NIST recounts. Since the factor is exact, decimals are trimmed on screen only, never during the math.

Screens, pans, jeans and plans: inches to centimeters in real life
TV and monitor sizes are quoted in inches on the diagonal, even in countries that measure everything else in centimeters. A 65-inch TV is 165.1 cm from corner to corner, a 27-inch monitor is 68.58 cm and a 6.1-inch phone screen is 15.49 cm. The diagonal is not the width, though: to check that a set fits a cabinet, take the width from the spec sheet and run that through the inches to cm converter.
American recipes name their pans by the inch. A 9-inch round cake pan is 22.86 cm across, and the classic 9 × 13 inch baking dish is 22.86 × 33.02 cm. Our cake pan sizes guide shows which metric tins swap in without changing the recipe; for any other pan, measure the bottom and use the inches to cm converter.
US jeans are labeled by waist and inseam in inches, so a 32-inch waist is 81.28 cm on a European size guide, and a 30-inch inseam is 76.2 cm.
In the workshop, plans from American magazines list every cut in inches and fractions. Type 36+5/8 into the inches to cm converter instead of rounding in your head and you get 93.0275 cm. A kitchen counter at the usual US height of 36 inches stands 91.44 cm off the floor, a handy check before you order metric cabinets.
One caution with bikes: wheel sizes such as 26 or 29 inches are trade names, not exact diameters, so read the ISO size printed on the tire sidewall before you reach for the inches to cm converter.
