What the feet to inches converter does
Type a length in feet; the inches appear beside it. Decimals and halves are fine: 2.25 ft is 27 in and 6.5 ft is 78 in. When the result is not a whole number, a fraction rounded to the sixteenth appears under it, the mark you would look for on a tape, so 1.3 ft reads 15.6 in, about 15 5/8 in. The round button sends you to the inches to feet converter when you need it the other way.
There is a single step: multiply by 12, since a foot holds exactly 12 inches. Both units are pinned to the metric system, the inch at 2.54 cm and the foot at 0.3048 m (NIST), so the feet to inches converter never drifts, however many decimals you type. To convert feet to inches by hand, 5.75 × 12 = 69.

Feet into inches for site plans, height and cut lists
US civil and site drawings often give lengths in decimal feet, read off an engineer's scale, while the tape measure in your hand shows inches. A dimension of 12.75 ft on a plan is 153 inches, which is 12 ft 9 in on the tape. The feet to inches converter makes that switch without a pencil.
Health formulas want inches too. The CDC's adult BMI formula in US units divides weight in pounds by height in inches squared, then multiplies by 703, so a height of 6 ft goes in as 72 and 5 ft 7 in as 67. For a height in centimeters instead, use the feet to cm converter.
Airlines measure checked bags in linear inches, the sum of length, width and height, and many US carriers cap it at 62. A box of 2 by 1.5 by 1 ft comes to 24 + 18 + 12 = 54 inches, which the feet to inches converter confirms in three quick entries. Our baggage allowance by airline guide lists each carrier's limit.
Cut lists work in inches as well: 8 ft of trim is 96 inches, so four 24-inch pieces use all of it, with nothing left for the saw cuts. When a figure has to be right, type it into the feet to inches converter rather than multiplying in your head.
