How the kg to lbs converter works
Type a weight in kilograms and read the pounds next to it. The round button swaps the units to go from lbs to kg, and the list below adds ounces, grams and stones. For a British weight such as 11 st 4 lb, pick "Stone + Pound": two fields appear.
A pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilogram, a definition shared by the US and the UK since 1959 (NIST). To convert kilograms to pounds you divide by that number, which is the same as multiplying by about 2.2046. The kg to lbs converter keeps every decimal.

Luggage, gym plates and recipes
Airlines outside the US often cap checked bags at 23 kg, which is 50.7 lbs, while US carriers say 50 lbs, or 22.7 kg. Our guide to the 23 kg luggage limit explains why those 300 grams matter at the counter.
In the gym, plates in Europe are marked in kilograms: a 20 kg plate is 44.1 lbs, close to the 45 lb plate Americans know. In the kitchen, European recipes weigh in grams, and an ounce is 28.35 g. For cups, see our cups to grams conversion by ingredient.
If a label says "lb" or "lbs", it is the same unit, the plural is just written two ways. The kg to lbs converter uses the international avoirdupois pound; the troy pound used for precious metals (373 g) has its own line in the list.
