How to use the ml to oz converter
Type an amount in milliliters and read the US fluid ounces next to it. The round button swaps the units to convert ounces to ml, and the list below adds the imperial fluid ounce, cups, pints, quarts and gallons. A sum such as 2×330 works too, for two cans.
Examples: 30 ml is about 1.01 fl oz, 355 ml, a standard can, is 12 fl oz, 500 ml is 16.9 fl oz and 1 liter is 33.8 fl oz. In the other direction, 8 fl oz is 236.6 ml and 16 fl oz, a pint, is 473.2 ml. Type the figure and the ml to oz converter does the rest.
The factor is exact: a US fluid ounce is 29.5735 ml (NIST gives 29.573 53), so 250 ml is about 8.45 fl oz and 100 ml is 3.38 fl oz. To go from ml to oz you divide by 29.5735. The ml to oz converter keeps every decimal and only rounds for display.
US ounces, imperial ounces and cups
Careful, there are two fluid ounces. The imperial one used in the UK is 28.4131 ml, about 4 percent smaller than the US one. Both sit in the list under their full names, so you can pick the right one for a British bottle or recipe.
A US cup is 8 fluid ounces, or about 236.6 ml, which is why metric recipes round it to 240 ml or 250 ml. The ml to oz converter shows the exact figure. For flour and sugar, volume is not enough: see our cups to grams conversion by ingredient.
Sports bottles, baby bottles and medicine cups often print both ml and oz. The ml to oz converter helps you check a quantity written in one unit against a measure marked in the other. For a medicine dose, always follow the label or ask a pharmacist, and never rely on a rounded value.
Also mind the word "oz": a fluid ounce measures volume, an ounce on a kitchen scale measures weight. Water is the one case where they come close, since 29.57 ml of water weighs about 29.57 g, or 1.04 oz. For anything else, use the ml to oz converter for liquids only, and the kg to lbs converter for weights.
