Length converter
This length converter turns meters into feet, inches into centimeters, miles into kilometers and more than 30 other units, so a metric plan and an imperial tape measure finally agree.
Formula: yd = m ÷ 0.9144 100 ÷ 0.9144 = 109.36132983

How to use the length converter
Pick the unit you have and the unit you want, then type your value. The answer updates as you type, and the list below gives the same length in every unit, from nanometers to light years. The round button swaps the two units. You can type a sum such as 2×45 or 3+0.5 too.
Examples: 1 meter is 3.2808 feet, 1 foot is 30.48 cm, 10 inches is 25.4 cm, 5 kilometers is 3.107 miles and 26.2 miles is 42.16 km. For a length given in feet and inches, pick "Feet + Inch" and the length converter shows two fields, one for each.
Every factor comes from an exact definition. An inch is 2.54 centimeters, a foot is 0.3048 meter, a yard is 0.9144 meter and a mile is 1609.344 meters, as NIST explains. The length converter keeps every decimal and only rounds for display.
Metric and imperial length units in daily life
The US measures a room in feet, a road in miles and a board in inches, while most of the world uses meters, kilometers and centimeters. A football field is 100 yards, or 91.44 meters. Fabric is sold by the yard in the US and by the meter elsewhere.
Rulers and tape measures often carry both scales, but not always. The length converter helps when only one side is marked: a bike frame in centimeters and a ruler in inches, or a TV in inches and a stand in centimeters.
Some length units share a name only. The nautical mile is 1852 meters, almost 15 percent longer than the statute mile, and it has its own line in the list. When a plan mixes units, convert everything to meters first.
For the pairs people look up most, a dedicated page goes further: the cm to inches converter, the feet to meters converter and the km to miles converter. For heights, see our height conversion chart.
